Lock Them Up!

Just this week the local police were here asking us to be on the look out for converters cut off cars overnight from a BMW repair facility two blocks away. Last week, police called with a similar request stating thirteen brand new cars had their converters cut off from a new car dealer. Naturally, we do all we can to catch the thieves. Brand new converters are obvious and easily noticed, however; the used ones, if not marked, are pretty tough to ID. In one recent instance, the police asked us to be on the look out for some Ford truck cats that had been stolen from a local dealer.

Catalytic Converter Values Continue to Rise

Steel may be depressed, but Catalytic Converter values continue to rise with the rise in Platinum Group Metal (PGM) Prices.

Even as steel continues to dip another 3.4% over the last two weeks, or 27% since peaking in late March, scrap catalytic converter values continue to rise with the strength of the Platinum Group Metals (PGMs). Palladium itself up over $200 since last month rising for a fifth straight week as of the writing of this article, July 10. Industrial demand is strong, especially in Asia, as it increases the use of PGMs in auto catalyst to meet the China 6 emissions requirements. Investor sentiment is positive.

A local rebuilder calls you looking for a front clip for a 2014 Cadillac SRX4. So, you check inventory and realize you have one in perfect condition and you quote it at $4,200.00, delivered. A repair shop asks for a 5.3 engine for a 2015 Silverado. You realize you have one that runs well with 80K on it. You quote it out at $1,950.00, delivered. Next, a body shop calls for a 2013 BMW X5 LF door. You realize you have one with two hours damage and quote it out at $450.00, delivered.
